Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson has returned to Chelsea after Bayern Munich decided against activating the £50 million option to sign him on a permanent deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Bundesliga champions confirmed Jackson’s immediate return after opting not to trigger the purchase clause included in the agreement.
Although Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was reportedly pleased with the striker’s performances, the club concluded several months ago that the agreed transfer fee was too high.

Jackson’s return comes shortly after Senegal’s heartbreaking exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Lions of Teranga appeared destined for a place in the quarter-finals after taking a commanding 2-0 lead against Belgium in their Round of 16 clash in Seattle.
Habib Diarra opened the scoring from close range after reacting quickest to a rebound before Ismaila Sarr doubled Senegal’s advantage early in the second half, controlling Moussa Niakhate’s long pass before firing past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Belgium, however, mounted a remarkable comeback late in the contest. Romelu Lukaku, who came off the bench alongside former Chelsea winger Diego Moreira, reduced the deficit in the 86th minute before Leandro Trossard combined with Youri Tielemans for the equaliser.
Jackson was introduced early in extra time with the score level at 2-2, while Mamadou Sarr and Mike Penders remained unused substitutes.

Belgium completed the dramatic turnaround in stoppage time of extra time after a lengthy VAR review awarded a penalty for a foul by Lamine Camara inside the area. Tielemans calmly converted the spot kick to seal a 3-2 victory and end Senegal’s World Cup campaign.
The result came only months after Senegal surrendered their Africa Cup of Nations title, while Belgium advanced to face the United States in the quarter-finals.
