Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, have urged political leaders to uphold democratic values, embrace patriotism and place Nigeria’s national interest above personal ambition.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the three leaders made the call on Sunday while receiving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum of State Chairmen, led by the forum’s chairman and Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, during separate meetings at the Governor’s Marina residence, the Deputy Governor’s residence in Ikoyi and the Oniru Palace in Victoria Island.

They also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying the administration should be given more time to consolidate its reforms and deliver on its programmes.
Speaking during the meeting, Sanwo-Olu urged the APC state chairmen to remain committed to national development and continue prioritising the welfare of Nigerians.
The governor said President Tinubu had taken bold steps to stabilise the economy and strengthen key national institutions.
Hamzat, in his remarks, said continuity would allow the administration’s policies to achieve their long-term objectives.
He also stressed the importance of elected public officials maintaining close relationships with their political parties, noting that political parties remain the foundation of democratic governance.
“You cannot be a candidate for any election unless you are a member of a political party. It is important that every elected official understands the significance and value of our party,” he said.
The deputy governor encouraged the APC chairmen to sustain regular engagement with governors and other elected officials, saying such interactions would provide opportunities to offer constructive advice capable of improving governance.
He also urged party leaders to exchange ideas and draw lessons from successful governance models across other states and African countries.
Reflecting on President Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, Hamzat highlighted projects such as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system and the Eko Atlantic City project as examples of visionary leadership and long-term planning.

He also praised the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, describing investment in road infrastructure as a major driver of economic growth.
“As a country, we must make sure we build our nation. We must not fail our young citizens. Political leaders must put Nigeria’s interests above personal ambitions,” Hamzat said.
At the Oniru Palace, Oba Gbolahan Lawal called on APC members to remain united and work towards President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The traditional ruler expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, saying the administration still had more to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
