A High Court in Glasgow, Scotland, has sentenced a 32-year-old Nigerian, Osarenkhoe Atutie, to seven and a half years in prison for the attempted murder of his partner following a brutal knife attack in Leith, Edinburgh.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Atutie had earlier pleaded guilty to the offence before receiving his sentence on Wednesday.

According to Police Scotland, the attack occurred on the morning of November 11, 2025, in the Duke Street area of Leith. Investigators said Atutie approached the 30-year-old woman, who was known to him, and repeatedly stabbed her in the head and body with a knife.
Members of the public rushed to the victim’s aid before emergency responders arrived. They apprehended Atutie nearby and restrained him until police officers reached the scene and placed him under arrest.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries before being discharged.
Detective Sergeant Craig McMillan described the incident as a deeply disturbing act of violence and expressed sympathy for the victim and her family.
“My thoughts are with the victim and her family,” McMillan said.
He commended the members of the public whose swift intervention helped prevent the attack from becoming fatal.
“I’d like to thank those members of the public who came to the victim’s aid during the ordeal. Without their intervention and assistance, there is a high chance that the victim would not have survived the attack,” he said.
McMillan also reaffirmed Police Scotland’s commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, stressing that violent crime and the possession of weapons have no place in Scottish society.
“Violence in any form and the possession of weapons in any environment has no place in Scotland and is entirely unacceptable. Tackling the harmful effects of violent crime, which has a devastating impact on individuals, families and our communities, and supporting victims remains a priority for our officers,” he added.
According to a UK newspaper, Atutie repeatedly stabbed the woman in front of their daughter, leaving her with at least 12 separate injuries.
The conviction comes months after another Nigerian, Adedapo Adegbola, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the United Kingdom for murdering his 23-year-old former girlfriend, Steph Irons, in Nottingham. Adegbola admitted stabbing Irons to death in October 2025 after their relationship ended.
