Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has said the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline corridor will unlock the state’s industrial potential by attracting investors, creating jobs and accelerating economic growth.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Bago made the remarks at the 2026 AKK and Energy Business Development Forum in Minna, where he described the project as a major opportunity to transform Niger State into one of Nigeria’s leading industrial centres.

According to the governor, the 1,000-square-kilometre AKK Gas Pipeline corridor passing through Niger State has been designated as an Industrial Development Zone that will encourage gas-powered industries and boost manufacturing.
He said the project would stimulate the establishment of agro-allied industries, petrochemical plants, fertiliser factories and other manufacturing businesses while strengthening the state’s economy.
Bago also highlighted Niger State’s abundant hydropower resources, vast solar energy potential and natural gas reserves, saying the combination gives the state a competitive advantage for industrialisation and long-term investment.
“My administration is determined to maximise these opportunities to transform the state’s economy and make it one of Nigeria’s leading productive economies,” the governor said.
He described the project as “a new dawn” for both Niger State and the wider region, adding that the Industrial Development Park planned along the pipeline corridor would reshape industrial activities across Northern Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Bago said the development would create fresh opportunities for agro-processing firms, fertiliser producers, hydrocarbon companies and several other industries seeking reliable energy infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Executive Vice President of Gas, Power and New Energy at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Olufemi Olalekan, disclosed that the AKK Gas Pipeline project has reached Abuja and is scheduled for commissioning in September 2026.
Olalekan said the pipeline infrastructure has already been completed up to Kano and is being commissioned in phases.
He added that work on the Niger State section is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
