- Osun Election: Tinubu Assures Voters of Adequate Security

President Bola Tinubu has assured residents of Osun State that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect voters before, during and after Saturday’s governorship election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Tinubu gave the assurance on Thursday in Osogbo during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign rally, where the party formally presented its candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

The President was represented at the rally by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who urged Osun voters to support the APC candidate and align the state with the Federal Government.
Tinubu said security agencies had been adequately deployed across the state to ensure that eligible voters could exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
“Let me assure all Osun indigenes that adequate security has been provided all over the state, to ensure people come out to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice without any fear or intimidation,” Tinubu said.
He urged voters to come out and vote freely, while encouraging them to make what he described as the right choice at the polls.
“Feel very free to cast your votes. My advice, however, is that you choose wisely because there is need to link Osun State to the centre. We are waiting for Osun to join us,” he said.
Tinubu also assured voters that they would not be harassed or intimidated during the election.
In his remarks, Akpabio said the large turnout at the rally demonstrated the APC’s strength and growing support across Osun State.
He cited the presence of former Governor and APC Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande, former National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, and Senator Francis Fadahunsi as evidence of the party’s broad support base.
Akpabio also acknowledged opposition figures who had expressed support for Oyebamiji, including former Governor and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, as well as leaders of the Accord Party in the state.
The Senate President described the development as evidence that the APC was a peaceful party, while noting that the support from opposition figures would strengthen Oyebamiji’s chances at the polls.
Akpabio, however, expressed concern over the condition of roads linking Ibadan to Osun State and charged the party’s candidate to prioritise infrastructure development if elected.
“Osun deserves more than this. Osun should be better than what we have now,” he said.
He urged Oyebamiji to begin transforming the state from his first day in office by improving infrastructure and delivering what he described as the dividends of democracy.
Other APC leaders at the rally also urged party supporters and voters across the state to turn out in large numbers on Saturday and vote for Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun State governorship election for Saturday, August 16, 2026.
