President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road linking Oyo and Ogun states.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the President also approved the immediate reconstruction and dualisation of the 70-kilometre Abeokuta-Ibadan Road.

Tinubu, who was represented by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, at the flag-off ceremony in Ibadan, said the projects were part of efforts by his administration to improve transportation, strengthen economic activities and address infrastructure challenges across the South-West.
He described the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode corridor as an important economic route linking Ibadan, Ijebu-Ode and the Lekki economic axis, while connecting communities across the region.
According to him, the road project will improve movement, reduce transportation costs, create jobs and make it easier for farmers, traders and manufacturers to move goods and services.
“The Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road is too important to Oyo State, Ogun State, Lagos and, indeed, the entire Nigeria to be left unattended to,” Tinubu said.
He said the project would involve the construction of about 58 kilometres of dual carriageway using continuous reinforced concrete pavement to improve durability and safety.
The contractor handling the project has assured the Federal Government that the work will be completed in less than 24 months.
Tinubu urged the contractor to mobilise fully to site and comply with the approved specifications and timeline.
He also appealed to communities along the route to cooperate with the government and contractor, warning against encroachment and activities that could delay the project.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed that Tinubu had also directed the immediate reconstruction and dualisation of the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road, adding that the procurement process had already commenced.
Umahi said Oyo State currently had 17 major road projects out of the 47 Federal Government projects being executed across the South-West.
He also highlighted other ongoing projects, including the Badagry-Sokoto Road, Oyo-Ogbomoso Road and Oyo-Ibadan Road.
The minister said the 56-kilometre Oyo-Ogbomoso Road was about 80 per cent completed, while the previously abandoned Oyo-Ibadan Road had been revived by the present administration.
Stakeholders at the ceremony, including lawmakers and traditional rulers, welcomed the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, saying it would improve economic activities and reduce accidents and insecurity along the corridor.
The road project was awarded on May 5, 2026, while construction work commenced on July 11, 2026. It is expected to be completed by June 10, 2029.
