Growing insecurity across the country has drawn sharp criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which accused the Federal Government of mishandling recent abductions and sending dangerous signals by negotiating with bandits.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the ADC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the government’s inconsistent responses show a troubling lack of preparedness while questioning why several kidnappings, from Kwara to Kebbi, occurred despite repeated assurances of improved security.

While expressing relief that some abducted victims were reunited with their families, the ADC insisted the government must explain the circumstances surrounding their release.

The party argued that conflicting statements by security officials suggest Nigerians are not being told the truth.
The ADC also condemned remarks implying that kidnappers voluntarily surrendered weapons during peace talks, saying such comments raise fears of hidden agreements with violent criminals.
It asked whether ransom was paid and demanded accountability for victims killed during the abductions.
The party warned that negotiating with armed groups emboldens criminals and strengthens the “banditry economy,” rather than dismantling it.

It also criticised the recent closure of Federal Unity Schools after multiple abductions, saying the move empowers extremist ideologies aimed at discouraging education.
According to the party, the government’s inability to determine the exact number of kidnapped schoolchildren in some states reflects serious institutional incompetence.
The ADC urged the immediate deployment of NSCDC personnel to safeguard schools and called for a full revival of the Safe Schools Initiative.
