Fresh tension has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-Central as the zone’s Forum is demanding an immediate reassessment of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda’s appointment as national chairman.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the Forum wants party leaders and governors from the region to meet President Bola Tinubu to address what it describes as worsening leadership concerns.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the group urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, alongside North-Central governors, to push the Progressive Governors Forum to intervene.

The request comes amid a widening internal dispute over speculations that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, may defect to the APC.
The Forum has long backed Muftwang’s possible defection, but key APC stakeholders in Plateau have strongly opposed the move. Women leaders in the state also staged a protest this week, rejecting any plan for the governor to join the party.
Accusing Yilwatda of fueling resistance to Muftwang’s defection for personal political reasons, the Forum alleged that the national chairman is sponsoring campaigns and protests to block the governor due to his own 2027 ambitions.

Yilwatda was the APC governorship candidate in Plateau in 2023 but lost to Muftwang of the PDP.
According to the Forum, Yilwatda’s alleged conduct undermines the APC constitution and threatens the political prospects of the entire region.
It argued that the national chairman lacks the leadership capacity required for the office, warning that his performance could affect the zone’s relevance in future federal appointments.

The group insisted that admitting Muftwang should be left to his ward in Mangu LGA, not the national chairman, and called on the APC leadership to immediately review Yilwatda’s position.
It added that paying women “peanuts” to protest poses security risks, as criminals may assume they received substantial funds.
In a separate message, the Forum congratulated Governor Hope Uzodinma on his appointment as Director-General for Party Outreach by President Tinubu, describing it as a well-deserved role that further exposes Yilwatda’s shortcomings.
