- ADC alleged that the poll was marred by widespread vote-buying

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the conduct of the 2025 Anambra governorship election, describing it as a cash-driven exercise that undermined Nigeria’s democracy and posed a threat to the credibility of the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the party’s position came shortly after President Bola Tinubu congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his re-election, calling it “an affirmation of visionary leadership” and promising stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that the poll was marred by widespread vote-buying, describing the process as “a cash-drenched spectacle that mocked the essence of democracy.”
Abdullahi claimed that bundles of naira exchanged hands openly at polling units while security agents and electoral officials failed to act. He said such indifference from institutions charged with protecting electoral integrity showed that Nigeria’s democracy risked becoming hollow.

The ADC further warned that if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to restore confidence in the system, the 2027 general elections might suffer the same fate.
Governor Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared the winner of the off-cycle poll after securing 422,664 votes to defeat APC’s Nicholas Ukachukwu, who polled 99,445 votes, and YPP’s Paul Chukwuma, who got 37,753 votes.
President Tinubu, in his congratulatory message, praised the electorate and security agencies for a peaceful poll, urging Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and continue delivering quality governance to the Anambra people.
