Dr. Wole Oluyede, a respected medical practitioner, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election after a closely contested primary.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the election, which began around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and concluded at 1:49 a.m. Sunday, Oluyede emerged victorious with 279 votes.

He defeated Funso Ayeni, who garnered 239 votes, while Funmilayo Ogun polled 17 votes. The result was announced by the Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo.

In a similar development, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) elected David Oludele Bankole as its governorship candidate after two aspirants, Peter Adesina and Adesola Dada, stepped down for him.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) also produced Dare Bejide, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada and ex-Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, as its flag bearer.
Bejide secured 15,466 votes to defeat four other aspirants, including former Deputy Governor, Prof. Olusola Eleka, who came second with 12,003 votes.
Likewise, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) unanimously elected entrepreneur Blessing Abegunde as its candidate following the withdrawal of other aspirants.

Meanwhile, the Accord Party (AP) has chosen businessman and philanthropist Opeyemi David Falegan as its candidate for the poll.
In a related development, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has reaffirmed his unwavering support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing their alliance as one that has brought “unprecedented development” to Ekiti State.
Speaking at the 2025 Ikogosi Day celebration and N1 billion development fund launch, Bamidele said their partnership was built on a shared vision for Ekiti’s progress, not personal or political gain.
Oyebanji, in turn, lauded Bamidele’s loyalty and described him as a dependable ally in advancing the Ekiti project.
