The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to nurturing, protecting and empowering Nigerian children through inclusive and quality education.
Eko Hot Blog reports that he made the statement while joining children across the country in celebrating Children’s Day 2026, an event marked at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja.

As part of the celebration, the ministry hosted children from different schools and backgrounds across Nigeria in a symbolic engagement aimed at amplifying their voices and strengthening national focus on child development and inclusive education.

Dr. Alausa described Children’s Day as a reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard the future of every Nigerian child through sustained investment in education, wellbeing and opportunity.
He said, “Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance.”
The minister also commended young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, for her efforts in promoting awareness, compassion and inclusion for children living with disabilities and autism in Nigeria.
He described her as a symbol of courage and resilience, noting that her advocacy continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion and equal opportunity.

“Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children. Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity for every child,” he said.
Dr. Alausa added that the Children’s Day celebration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises child development, inclusive education and expanded access to quality learning opportunities across the country.
He urged Nigerian children to believe in themselves, develop their talents and contribute positively to society, while assuring them of government’s continued support in creating enabling environments for growth and learning.
“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed,” he stated.

The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of every Nigerian child and promoting policies that ensure inclusive education, safe learning environments and equal opportunities nationwide.
