The meeting included representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside several former leaders of the association.
The motion for the endorsement was moved by former ALGON President Alabi Kolade David and seconded by the Plateau State ALGON chairman, Anani Hamisu Mohammed.
In a communiqué released following the session, the association noted that continuity under the Tinubu administration is essential to “deepen grassroots governance”.
ALGON attributed its support to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that the policy has significantly improved fiscal capacity and autonomy at the local government level.
In a simultaneous development, the council announced the suspension of three local government chairmen over allegations of misconduct, abuse of constitutional provisions, and actions against the interests of the association.

Those affected include Zakari Iliyasu of Agwara LGA (Niger State), Abubakar Danladi Abdullahi of Kaiama LGA (Kwara State), and Abba Shehu Tambuwal of Tambuwal LGC (Sokoto State).
ALGON has warned government ministries, agencies, and development partners to cease all official dealings with these individuals.
Furthermore, the council expressed full confidence in the leadership of National President Bello Lawal.
The meeting concluded with a pledge of loyalty to the current national leadership as the association seeks to align more closely with federal governance initiatives to benefit local communities across Nigeria.
