Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned a fresh attack in Gwer Local Government Area that left nine people dead.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor described the incident as brutal and unacceptable, noting that it poses a serious threat to the peace and security of the state.

The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen, targeted residents of Mbalom community in Gwer-East.

Governor Alia expressed deep sympathy to the victims’ families and assured them of the government’s support during the difficult period.
He also raised concerns over what appears to be a pattern of coordinated attacks in parts of the state, stressing that such acts of violence will not be tolerated.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting communities across Benue.
Alia commended security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, for their swift response, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
He urged security operatives to intensify their operations to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Gwer Local Government Area, Timothy Adi, said the attackers struck between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., despite prior security warnings about a possible assault.
He confirmed that one victim is currently receiving treatment in critical condition, while noting that the state Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Enemari, visited the affected area and deployed additional personnel to restore calm.
Authorities say the situation has since been brought under control, even as investigations continue into the incident, which occurred on Holy Saturday.
