EKO HOT BLOG reports that the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, confirmed the development while briefing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
Meseko stated that the screening committee cleared the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, and Omolayo Oluremi to contest for the party’s ticket.
The decision, which was ratified during Thursday’s meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), followed the submission of a report by the screening panel tasked with assessing aspirants ahead of the primaries.
According to reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the Ekiti governorship election for July 20, 2026.
Ojo’s disqualification marks the second major shake-up in the party’s primary process in recent weeks, following the earlier exclusion of Olajumoke Olawuni from the race.
Kayode Ojo, a businessman and veteran political figure in Ekiti, has a long history of clashes with the APC hierarchy in the state. He previously contested for the governorship position under the APC in 2018 and has often criticized internal party structures.
A senior party source told Vanguard that Ojo’s removal may have been politically motivated. “This is more about party stability than technical screening issues,” the source said, suggesting that the national leadership is seeking to prevent internal divisions that have previously weakened the party in the state.

In a related development, the NWC also announced the dissolution of the APC State Executive Committee in Enugu. The move is believed to be part of wider political realignments ahead of the expected defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mba, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
