Arewa Forum Calls For Kukah Prosecution Over Coup Remarks
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute Matthew Kukah, bishop of Sokoto Catholic diocese, over a Christmas message castigating the federal government.
Last Friday, Kukah accused President Muhammadu Buhari of entrenching nepotism and placing northerners above other tribes in the civil service.

But in a statement on Monday, Yerima Shettima, AYCF national president, describes Kukah’s statements as “treasonable felony against the Nigerian state”.
Shettima averred that the Kukah was using nepotism as an instrument of “calumny” against the government and people of Nigeria.
He added that Kukah’s comments were aimed at pitching the south against the north in order to create disharmony and unrest in the country and further worsen the situation of the country.
“Such a reckless statement by Kukah betrays something much more sinister against both the North and the nation as a whole because Nigeria is at a stage that it requires responsible advice for attaining peace and stability, not deliberate attempt to mischievously compound our problems,” he said.
Shettima said Kukah should stop pretending and l hiding under the guise of religion to play politics, and should keep the bishop’s office away from intrigues of politics, he advised the cleric to join a political party and contest for the presidency in 2023.
The AYCF president said Kukah should take his mind back to the struggle to rid the country of military dictatorship and to entrenched democracy in the country.

“We will not allow opportunists who did make any contribution to scuttle the democracy achieved through the sweat and toil and the sacrifice of our liberty,” he said.
