EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that troops successfully repelled the assault despite the use of rocket-propelled grenades, armed drones, and improvised explosive devices by the terrorists.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area, following a swift response by forces on ground and reinforcement elements from 29 Task Force Brigade,” the statement read.
While initial reports claimed that eight soldiers had died, the Army clarified that four personnel were killed and five injured. It added that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, with about 15 of their bodies buried near Bula Wura after a mass burial.
Military engineers later cleared three IEDs planted along the highway, reopening the road to traffic. Some mine-resistant vehicles and gun trucks sustained minor damage, but supplies of ammunition and parts were quickly replaced to sustain operations.
Uba said the Army had launched further patrols to dominate the area and deny the terrorists freedom of movement, commending the troops’ gallantry and assuring the public of improved safety.
Meanwhile, the attack left hundreds of commuters stranded for over seven hours. Travellers expressed concerns over renewed insecurity on the once-safe Maiduguri–Damaturu–Kano highway and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure the route remains protected.
