Five additional names were nominated at the venue, bringing the total number of aspirants to 89, while the Fusengbuwa ruling house later confirmed 95 nominations overall after reconciliation.
Speaking after the conclusion of the nominations on Monday, the Olori Ebi of the Fusengbuwa ruling house and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Otunba Abdul Lateef Owoyemi, urged anyone dissatisfied with the process to direct their grievances to the appropriate government authorities.
Owoyemi assured that the kingmakers would carry out their responsibilities diligently and without error, stressing that the process so far had been peaceful, transparent, and rooted in tradition.
According to him, the nomination stage marks only the beginning of the selection process, explaining that the kingmakers will now screen the candidates and forward selected names to the government for final approval.
“We have 19 days for anyone who feels aggrieved to express their displeasure. We have 86 princes and princesses who have shown interest in the throne, and today we have successfully, peacefully, and harmoniously nominated them. It is now left for the kingmakers to do their work and select one among them for Ijebuland,” Owoyemi said.
He further expressed confidence that Ijebuland would have a new monarch within a month, noting that the ruling house had carried out extensive traditional consultations ahead of the process.
“We in the Fusengbuwa ruling house have conducted thorough traditional research through the oracles to guide us. We have no doubt that the kingmakers will select the person ordained by Almighty God and endorsed by our ancestors,” he added.
