- Awujale Succession: Police Re-Summon Ijebu Kingmakers Over Inducement Claims
- Four of the kingmakers are expected to appear on April 21, while the remaining five are to report on April 22
- The Awujale stool became vacant following the death of Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025 at the age of 91
The Ogun State Police Command has again summoned nine kingmakers in Ijebu-Ode over allegations of bribery and financial inducement linked to the selection of a new Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that a police source confirmed that the kingmakers have been asked to report at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Monday and Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to the source, four of the kingmakers are expected to appear on April 21, while the remaining five are to report on April 22.
One of the kingmakers, Abimbola Okenla, confirmed the development, expressing dissatisfaction over what he described as repeated invitations by security agencies.
He said the situation has become a distraction, adding that both the kingmakers and the people of Ijebu land are concerned about the delays affecting the selection process.
Okenla appealed to Dapo Abiodun to allow the kingmakers to complete their assignment without further interference.
Also reacting, Abdulateef Owoyemi, a family head in the Fusengbuwa ruling house, said he had heard of the latest summons but could not immediately confirm it. He, however, urged the state government to ensure a smooth and timely emergence of a new monarch.

The Awujale stool became vacant following the death of Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025 at the age of 91 after 65 years on the throne.
Since then, the selection process has faced multiple setbacks, including suspensions by the state government over alleged procedural issues and a wave of petitions from stakeholders.
A total of 95 aspirants from the Fusengbuwa ruling house had earlier emerged for consideration, but the process has yet to be concluded.
The police had previously invited the same kingmakers in February 2026 over similar allegations, though that investigation was later halted following intervention by state authorities.
The latest move signals renewed scrutiny as authorities continue efforts to ensure transparency in the selection of the next Awujale.
