Be Vigilant, Igbokwe Warns Nigerians Over LG Funds

As the Nigerian Federal Government prepares to directly disburse local government (LG) allocations to 774 LGs, Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain in Lagos State, has called on Nigerians to be vigilant and prevent the potential diversion of these funds into private hands.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Igbokwe is a former Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on drainage .
He highlighted the importance of monitoring the expenditure of these funds to ensure accountability at the grassroots level.

The direct disbursement plan is a critical step towards implementing the Supreme Court ruling on financial autonomy for local governments.

He said, “Now that 774 Local Government will be getting nearly 500m every month plus the revenue generated, let Nigerians put their eyes, ears on the ground to know how the money is spent.
“We do not want the money to be used to buy houses.”
