EKO HOT BLOG reports that the advice was given during a consultative visit by the PDP NWC to Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where the former President praised the committee’s efforts to stabilise and reposition the party.
Obasanjo commended the steps taken so far by the NWC and urged members to remain focused and disciplined in carrying out their responsibilities, stressing the need for strict adherence to party rules.
He said, “Anybody who wants to belong to a political party must adhere strictly to its rules and regulations.”
Encouraging the leadership to stay the course, Obasanjo added, “Things are not beyond repairs. Soldier on. You are doing very well.”
The former President stressed the importance of a strong and focused opposition in a democratic system, charging the PDP leadership to place national interest above all other considerations.
He noted that the challenges confronting the country require political actors to act constructively and responsibly, adding that Nigeria’s progress depends on leaders who prioritise the nation over partisan gains.
Obasanjo also criticised the current direction of the Federal Government, saying that the way and manner it is going cannot take Nigeria to a good destination.
He assured the PDP leadership of his readiness to continue offering guidance and political insights whenever the need arises.
Responding, PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, expressed appreciation to the former President on behalf of the entire National Working Committee.
Turaki said, “Your continued support and wisdom mean a great deal to us, Sir.”
He added, “Your advice and great counsel are always very helpful and we will rely on them as we work tirelessly to rebuild and unify our party. We came here specifically to tap into your experience and benefit from your invaluable perspective on both the party’s future and the state of our nation.”

Turaki assured Obasanjo that the NWC under his leadership is committed to maintaining internal peace, promoting genuine reconciliation, and preparing the party to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Members of the delegation included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, former Niger State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, the PDP governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, members of the National Working Committee, and other party leaders from the South West and across the country.
The PDP NWC is expected to continue consultations with other party leaders as part of efforts to strengthen unity and resolve internal disagreements within the party.
