The Benue State House of Assembly has imposed a three-month suspension on 13 of its members for disassociating themselves from the suspension of Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Terver Zamber, the suspension was a result of a motion by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer. The suspended members were accused of actions deemed dishonourable, potentially damaging the House’s integrity and causing internal conflict.
The statement further revealed that the 13 members are required to return funds allocated for an upcoming foreign trip, which they will no longer attend. The House also condemned the actions of Makurdi South’s representative, Douglas Akya, and others who voted for the Chief Judge’s removal but later publicly denied their involvement.
Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh listed the suspended members, including Douglas Akya (Makurdi South), Jonathan Agbidye (Katsina-Ala East), and Beckie Orpin (Gboko East), among others.

The suspension came after a complaint from the Attorney-General regarding allegations of misconduct, bribery, and corruption against Justice Ikpambese. Despite supporting the motion for the Chief Judge’s removal, the 13 members publicly distanced themselves from the process, violating House rules, according to Tiseer.
