The drop follows an accelerated pace in charitable giving through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Foundation, widely regarded as one of the largest private philanthropic organisations in the world, is increasing spending on global health, education, and poverty reduction.
Gates has long stated his intention to give away 99% of his wealth before he dies.
“There are too many urgent problems to solve for me to hold onto resources that could be used to help people,” Gates wrote in a recent blog post.
The billionaire, who once held the title of the world’s richest man, said he does not want to be remembered as someone who “died rich.”
His Foundation has already disbursed over $100 billion to various causes since its launch in 2000.

It aims to spend out all its assets and wind down operations by December 31, 2045.
Gates believes setting a closing date gives the organisation a clear purpose and prevents mission drift.
Much of the Foundation’s recent focus has been on delivering vaccines, supporting agriculture, improving access to clean water, and boosting innovation in low-income countries.
Despite the massive loss in personal wealth, Gates says the real value lies in lives improved across the globe.
He continues to lead global discussions on equitable access to healthcare and climate solutions.
The move comes at a time when government aid from Western nations is facing major cuts due to global crises and economic strain.
Gates’ approach is being seen as a model for other ultra-wealthy individuals seeking long-term impact through structured philanthropy.
