The initiative is designed to drive coordinated action on food security, nutrition awareness, and sustainable community health systems.
Representing the council at the programme were the Heads of Department for Education and Agriculture, alongside the Medical Officer of Health, reflecting a unified and multi-sectoral approach to addressing nutrition challenges at the grassroots level.
Stakeholders at the event emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling malnutrition and promoting healthier communities.

“The formation of the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition is a strategic step toward ensuring that policies on nutrition are effectively implemented at the grassroots,” a participant noted.
“It will help strengthen awareness, improve food systems, and support vulnerable populations within our communities.”
The establishment of the LGCFN is expected to institutionalize nutrition-focused interventions, ensuring that local councils are better equipped to combat malnutrition, encourage healthy lifestyles, and enhance overall community wellbeing.
The initiative further reinforces the council’s dedication to people-centered governance and sustainable development through strategic partnerships and proactive health policies.
