A man and his girlfriend have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for solemnizing their marriage at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road without the consent of their parents.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the board’s Deputy Commander General of Operations, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

He stated that Hisbah personnel raided the restaurant on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off.
“It’s very unfortunate to report that the marriage was solemnized at the restaurant by the man’s friends, without the approval of the couple’s parents,” Abubakar said.
He issued a stern warning, stating that the board would not tolerate the violation of Shari’a law in the state.

The deputy commander explained that the couple’s actions violated key marriage conditions, constituting a clear breach of Shari’a law.
