EKO HOT BLOG reports that the meeting is taking place at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, where top military commanders gathered to review the security situation and assess the armed forces’ response to the growing threat posed by terrorists in the region.
Those present at the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. Also in attendance are the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass.
Representatives of the National Intelligence Agency and other security officials are also participating in the discussions.
The meeting followed recent deadly attacks carried out by terrorists in Borno State, where at least three commanding officers with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel were killed.
Several soldiers also lost their lives during the assaults on military formations in the area.
In addition to the military casualties, many civilians were abducted during the attacks and are reportedly still being held by the insurgents.

Before the meeting continued behind closed doors, the Defence Minister said the military leadership had agreed to review its current operational strategies in order to respond more effectively to the threat posed by the terrorists.
He acknowledged that the armed forces had recorded losses during recent operations but insisted that the terrorists had also suffered significant casualties.
