The Nigeria Police Force has sparked controversy after suggesting that “spiritual forces” may explain the extrajudicial killing of a handcuffed man by an officer in Delta State.
Eko Hot Blog reports the victim, identified as Mene Ogidi, was allegedly shot by a police officer, ASP Usman Nuhu, an incident captured in a viral video that circulated widely online.

Reacting to the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, described the incident as disturbing and difficult to explain.

“I will start with the issue at hand, which is a very sad issue. There is no explanation for this. I don’t just get what was wrong with that policeman (Mr Nuhu),” Edafe said during an interview on Channels Television.
He added, “Police cannot attribute problems to spirituality, but that may not be far from it. Because that’s the only explanation one can give to what he did.”
The remarks have drawn attention as authorities continue investigations into the killing, which has raised fresh concerns over police conduct and accountability.
The officer involved has reportedly been arrested, while the case is expected to undergo further disciplinary and legal review.
