Governor Diri appealed to residents to avoid turning the tragic loss into a political issue, stressing that the moment called for unity and reflection.

He explained that the decision to order an autopsy became necessary due to what he described as misleading narratives spreading across social media platforms, urging the public to allow the family and the state to mourn peacefully.
The governor also confirmed that the Bayelsa State Government had declared three working days of mourning in honour of the late deputy governor.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed on Thursday while attending to official duties at the Government House in Yenagoa. He was rushed for medical attention and later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead.

Born on September 5, 1965, in Ofoni, Sagbama Local Government Area, Ewhrudjakpo rose to prominence after clinching the PDP senatorial ticket for Bayelsa West in 2018.
He served as senator from 2019 before becoming deputy governor following the Supreme Court ruling that ushered in the Diri-Ewhrudjakpo administration in 2020.
He served in office for nearly six years and passed away at the age of 60.
