The programme focused on raising awareness about the critical role of birth registration in securing children’s rights, including access to healthcare, education, and legal identity.
Participants were sensitized on the benefits of transitioning from manual to electronic registration, which is expected to improve efficiency, accessibility, and data accuracy.
Officials at the event emphasized that proper documentation of births is essential for national planning and social development, noting that unregistered children often face challenges in accessing basic services.
The initiative, according to the council, is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that every child within the local government area is accounted for and given a strong foundation for future opportunities.
Stakeholders at the engagement expressed support for the programme, pledging to take the message back to their respective communities and encourage parents and guardians to embrace the e-registration system.
The collaboration between Epe Local Government and UNICEF underscores a shared commitment to child protection, inclusive development, and the use of technology to improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
