Many people, including top officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Market Men and Women and residents, attended the event to show support for the affected families and pray for the souls of the departed.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, led the dignitaries at the prayer session.
Others present included the Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun; Alhaji Akanni Sakiru Seriki-Bamu; Hon. Wale Raji; Hon. Abiodun Tobun; Hon. Segun Agbaje; Hon. Wale Anomo; and other local leaders.
Dr. Hamzat expressed deep sadness over the incident and shared that Alhaji Aliko Dangote had promised to assist the affected families.
“This is a tough time for the people of Epe, but we must remain strong and united.
“We will do everything we can to support the families and prevent such accidents in the future,” he said.
Hon. Wale Raji, who also spoke at the event, said the tragedy was heartbreaking.
“I feel the pain of the families who lost their loved ones. We will take steps to improve safety in Ayetoro and other areas,” he said.
The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun, comforted the grieving families with a message from the Quran.
“We belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return. Let us keep praying for our loved ones and stay strong during this time,” she said.
Religious leaders from different faiths led prayers during the session, showing unity in the community.
After the event, the Deputy Governor and other leaders visited the General Hospital, where they met two survivors, Mrs. Gbenle Oluwatoyin and Mrs. Okeowo Modinat.
They also visited the home of late Ariyo Anthonia’s parents to offer condolences.
Ariyo Anthonia was a 200-level Computer Science student at Lagos State Technical College, Odomola.
She was one of the victims of the accident. Hon. Abiodun Tobun described her as “a promising young woman whose life was cut short too soon.”
Hon. Animashaun assured the residents that her administration would support the affected families and work to make the area safer.
“We will make sure such tragedies don’t happen again,” she said.
