- Eredo LCDA begins environmental sensitization campaign across communities.
- Residents warned against dumping refuse on road medians and expressways.
- Council’s waste compactor now operational and set for ward-to-ward waste evacuation.
The Environmental Health and Waste Management Department of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has commenced a wide-ranging sensitization campaign aimed at promoting proper waste disposal and environmental cleanliness across communities within the council area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the campaign, which began on Monday, is designed to educate residents on the importance of maintaining a clean environment and complying with approved waste management practices.
As part of the awareness drive, residents were warned against the indiscriminate disposal of refuse, particularly on road medians and along major highways, with the council emphasizing that such acts constitute environmental offences and are punishable under existing regulations.
According to the department, the indiscriminate dumping of waste not only defaces the environment but also contributes to flooding, environmental pollution, and public health challenges.
To strengthen waste management efforts across the LCDA, the council announced that its waste compactor has become fully operational and will be deployed across all wards for the evacuation of accumulated refuse.
The initiative is expected to improve sanitation standards, reduce environmental hazards, and enhance the overall cleanliness of communities within Eredo LCDA.
Residents were encouraged to take advantage of the waste evacuation exercise by ensuring that refuse is disposed of through approved channels and not in unauthorized locations.
The council further called on community leaders, market operators, youth groups, and residents’ associations to support the sensitization campaign and help spread awareness on the need for environmental responsibility.
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, Eredo LCDA urged residents to work collectively with the council to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for present and future generations.
The council noted that achieving a clean and sustainable environment requires the cooperation and active participation of every resident.
