Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on the Nigerian government to work with other countries to apply diplomatic pressure on the United States over its role in the growing conflict involving Iran and Israel.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria made the appeal during an appearance on the Politics Today programme on Channels Television on Thursday, Eko Hot Blog gathered.

He argued that Nigeria should join forces with other nations to ensure that international law is respected and also encourage major global powers like Russia and China to help mediate in the escalating crisis.

Falana criticised the actions of Donald Trump, accusing the American leader of ignoring international law and disregarding resolutions passed by the United Nations.
According to him, the U.S. administration under Trump has withdrawn from dozens of UN resolutions and shown little respect for the authority of the global body.
He said Nigeria should revive the kind of multilateral diplomacy it once practised during the era of the Non-Aligned Movement, when the country often worked with other nations to promote peace and balance in global affairs.

By forming alliances with like-minded countries, he argued, Nigeria and its partners could collectively pressure Washington to act with restraint.
Falana also stressed that diplomatic engagement from Russia and China would be particularly important because of the strong influence both countries have over Iran.
In his view, their involvement could help de-escalate tensions and push all parties toward negotiations.
Beyond international diplomacy, the activist urged Nigeria to focus on strengthening its internal security framework. He warned that no foreign power would guarantee stability in the country if its own security institutions remain weak.
According to him, Nigeria must prioritise equipping its armed forces and police to effectively safeguard the nation.

He pointed out that Nigerian troops have historically performed well in international peacekeeping operations, including missions under the United Nations and the ECOWAS Monitoring Group.
Falana also criticised the management of Nigeria’s refining sector. He questioned why the country’s four state-owned refineries remain largely inactive despite the huge funds spent on their rehabilitation.
According to him, relying heavily on the Dangote Refinery after spending about $2.9 billion on refinery maintenance raises concerns about the country’s energy management strategy.
His remarks come as tensions continue to rise following a major conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
