Eko Hot Blog reports that the deceased, Timothy Daniel Monday, was reportedly shot dead at about 12:05 a.m. on January 1 in Ete, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, after confronting the soldier who allegedly attempted to sexually harass his 15-year-old sister, Miracle, as the children returned home from Mount Zion Full Gospel Church.

The family has called for the compensation to be jointly paid by the Nigerian Army and Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited, the company to which the soldier was attached.
Speaking to journalists, Timothy’s mother, Mrs. Aniebiet Daniel, said the soldier was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs when the incident occurred.
She recounted that her son tried to protect his sisters and was shot in the head, dying instantly. She further claimed that the soldier assaulted her daughters while they attempted to retrieve Timothy’s body, leaving them unconscious and rushed to the hospital.
Mrs. Daniel also alleged that other soldiers arrived on the scene, firing into the air and using tear gas, and that her son’s body remains in the custody of the Army. She said the family had given a two-week ultimatum to the Army and the company to meet their demands to allow for Timothy’s burial.
The parents presented their demands during a meeting with Army representatives and the clan head of Ukpuum Ete, His Royal Highness Nsikan Udom.
