According to Abdullah, TikTok will no longer be treated as a platform solely for entertainment, but as a potential space for learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He emphasized that the policy seeks to channel the creativity of Nigerian youth toward productive use rather than the “purely entertainment-driven” content currently prevalent on the app.

Government officials explained that the initiative was prompted by rising concerns over the amount of time young Nigerians spend producing and consuming trivial videos. The administration, they said, intends to ensure that social media becomes a tool for personal development and national growth.
