EKO HOT BLOG reports that the affected terminal forms part of ongoing upgrade works aimed at modernising the airport’s infrastructure and improving passenger experience.
Emergency responders were seen at the scene battling the blaze, but officials were yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
The development comes nearly two years after a fire was recorded at the international wing of the same airport.
On September 6, 2023, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria disclosed that a suspected electrical spark at the baggage hall ceiling caused a smoke incident at Terminal 1 of the airport.
According to the authority, the source of the smoke was traced to a burning lithium ion battery installation located in the basement.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue and the situation at the old terminal is fully assessed.
