The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it received a distress call at about 2:40 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response mechanism.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the agency, Mr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, emergency responders arrived at the scene at about 3:22 a.m., where the building was already engulfed in flames.
Preliminary findings by the LASEMA Response Team indicated that the fire was triggered by a power surge following the restoration of public electricity supply. The inferno spread rapidly due to the high volume of combustible materials in the complex, which was primarily used for the storage and sale of clothing.

LASEMA said its personnel immediately conducted a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area, and activated safety measures to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.
Working alongside other emergency responders, the agency successfully contained and extinguished the fire. However, the one-storey shopping complex and nearby shops were completely razed, with all goods and property within the affected structures destroyed.
The agency added that a post-incident physical assessment revealed partial structural compromise of the building, necessitating an urgent structural integrity evaluation.
