Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed former local government chairmen and councillors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform to immediately leave all local government secretariats, declaring their continued presence illegal and in contempt of existing court rulings.
Speaking in a statewide broadcast on Monday, Eko Hot Blog gathered that Governor Adeleke emphasized that the APC officials no longer hold any lawful authority to occupy the offices following their removal through judicial processes.

He recalled that the Federal High Court in Osogbo nullified the APC-conducted local government elections of November 2022, a decision subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal on February 10 and reaffirmed on June 13, 2025.

“The former chairmen and councillors have no legal backing to remain in office, having been removed through valid court rulings,” Adeleke stated.
The governor noted that, in compliance with these rulings, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission conducted fresh local government elections on February 22, 2025. The newly elected officials were sworn in the following day and remain the only legitimate occupants of the secretariats.
“These duly elected officials are the only lawful authorities at the local government level in Osun State,” Adeleke added.
He further highlighted that even the APC officials had acknowledged in court that their tenure expired in October 2025, and any attempt to extend their stay only confirms that they lack a legal mandate.
Governor Adeleke accused the former APC officials of forcefully occupying local government offices, reportedly with support from armed police personnel, allegedly under instructions from former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. He condemned reports that local government workers who attempted to resume duties faced harassment and intimidation.

“Any act of intimidation or harassment of workers is unacceptable, constitutes an abuse of power, and poses a serious threat to democratic governance,” Adeleke warned.
Assuring residents of Osun State, the governor called for calm while reiterating his administration’s commitment to upholding court judgments, restoring legality at the grassroots, and protecting citizens’ rights.
“Our government will not tolerate lawlessness. We will uphold the rule of law, restore order at the local government level, and ensure the safety of our people,” he said, stressing that the directive aims to safeguard democratic institutions and ensure lawful governance across the state.
