EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mohammed Ahmed emerged as the winner of the primary election after polling 42,785 votes, while Senator Goje secured 10,425 votes.
The Returning Officer for the exercise, Dr. Habu Dahiru, officially announced Ahmed as the APC candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District seat.
Ahmed, who is reportedly backed by Inuwa Yahaya, had earlier emerged as the party’s consensus candidate before the primaries. However, Senator Goje rejected the consensus arrangement and proceeded with the contest.
Speaking after the election, Ahmed described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, adding that the outcome reflected the desire of party members and residents for a new direction in the district.
According to him, there was growing support for stronger representation for Gombe Central at the National Assembly.
“You can see the excitement among the people. Many believe the time has come for Yamaltu-Deba to have a stronger voice at the national level,” he said.
Ahmed added that his ambition was not intended to stop anyone from contesting but was inspired by what he described as the collective desire of the people for change and fresh leadership.

The outcome marks a major political setback for Senator Goje, one of the most influential political figures in Gombe State, who has remained a dominant force in the state’s politics for more than two decades.
