Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured Nigerians that the Yoruba people will be central to his administration if elected President in 2027, stressing that fears of ethnic domination are baseless.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, Atiku dismissed concerns that his presidency would favour Hausa/Fulani interests to the detriment of the Yoruba or other ethnic groups.

According to him, such worries are completely unfounded, given his longstanding personal and familial ties to the Yoruba nation.
He explained that his relationship with the Yoruba dates back several decades and is deeply rooted in marriage and family life.
“I’m fortunate to have married a Yoruba woman, and this bond places the Yoruba in a very special position in my life,” he said.

The former Vice President highlighted his first marriage in the 1970s to Titi Abubakar, an Ijesha-born woman, noting that their union produced four children. “Our relationship has stood the test of time.
She’s now over 75, and we’re still happily together,” he added.
He described his wife as his “Jewel of Inestimable Value,” saying his close family ties and long-standing friendships with Yoruba individuals prove his love and commitment to the South-West.
“My children with Titi often call me ‘Baba Rere’ a good father. I love them dearly and always try to be the best father I can be. I encourage all fathers to do the same,” Atiku said.
He reiterated that the South-West will play a prominent role in his policy direction, should he emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
“It’s for these reasons that the interest of the Yoruba people will be top priority in my governance. By God’s grace, if I become president, the Yoruba will have nothing to fear,” he assured.
Atiku also emphasised his inclusive approach to leadership, describing himself as someone who naturally connects with Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines.
“Long before politics, I’ve always felt at home with people from all parts of this country,” he said.
