EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement released on Saturday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Nigerian government expressed deep concern over the rising hostilities between Israel and Iran. The Ministry stated that the preemptive attacks have triggered a sustained cycle of missile and aerial retaliation between both countries, endangering countless civilian lives.
“The government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria condemns Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran that has led to an escalation of hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel,” the statement read. “Nigeria expresses its grave concern and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urges both parties to exercise utmost restraint in the interest of regional and global peace.”
The government warned that continued military actions could plunge the Middle East into deeper instability and create ripple effects that could impact international security and economic development.
Reaffirming its long-standing commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts, Nigeria urged the warring nations to embrace dialogue over confrontation. It also appealed to the global community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to intervene decisively to prevent further escalation and facilitate peaceful engagement.
“Military action is not a substitute for negotiation. The path to lasting peace lies in diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law,” the Ministry stated, adding that Nigeria is ready to support all sincere efforts aimed at restoring calm and stability.
The condemnation follows Israel’s major air campaign on Friday targeting nearly 100 sites across Iran, including sensitive nuclear and military facilities. Among the casualties were high-ranking Iranian military officials, including General Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s Chief of Staff, and Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, described the attacks as a “declaration of war,” vowing severe consequences. The Iranian military also warned that its retaliation would know “no limits.”

The strikes represent one of the most serious escalations in recent years between the two nations, drawing widespread international concern and calls for urgent diplomatic intervention.
