The strategic establishment is slated to bring a substantial increase in troop numbers and tactical equipment to bolster security operations, particularly in rural communities facing persistent threats of banditry and kidnapping.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq conveyed his appreciation in an official statement issued on Tuesday through his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola, describing the presidential approval as a critical milestone for state security.
Governor AbdulRazaq also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, for the swift processing of the state’s request for additional operational personnel, as well as the Office of the National Security Adviser and sister security agencies for their ongoing joint operations aimed at clearing criminal elements from forest reserves.
The federal approval coincides with heightened security anxieties in parts of Kwara South, notably in Babanla, Ifelodun Local Government Area, where recent attacks resulted in the death of one resident and the abduction of another.
The strategic placement of the new army unit in Omu Aran is expected to secure vulnerable corridors across Igbomina land and restore calm to rural communities.
