IPMAN’s Ultimatum: Clear N200bn Debt or Brace for Fuel Crisis
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) plans to shut down 30,000 filling stations across the country.
Consequently, this is if the Federal Government fails to pay the N200 billion debt owed to marketers.
Furthermore, IPMAN explained that NMDPRA, a government agency, has failed to clear its accumulated debt.

Unpaid Bridging Claims Since September 2022
The debt has been accumulating since September 2022, according to IPMAN. Moreover, the statement was made over non-payment of marketers’ bridging claims. In addition, bridging claims are payments by government to marketers for transporting petroleum products.
“Terrible Consequences” Warned
IPMAN Depot Chairmen Forum Chairman, Yahaya Alhassan, stated the consequences will be terrible. He said every marketer’s outlet across Nigeria, from the North to the South, and from the East to the West, will be shut down.
Efforts to Resolve Issue
Alhassan said IPMAN has taken steps to salvage the situation in the past. However, they are presently left with no option but to address the “ugly trend.” This, he warned, will portend great hardship and danger for Nigerians.
Minister’s Directive Ignored
On February 20, 2024, the NMDPRA Chief Executive was mandated to clear the debt in 40 days. However, only N13 billion has been paid so far, thus ignoring the minister’s directive.

Appeal to President Buhari
“We are appealing to Mr President to intervene in this quagmire,” Alhassan said. Additionally, he added that if demands are not met, IPMAN is prepared to withdraw services. “We are collectively prepared to close every outlet and suspend lifting products,” he sternly warned.
