- Sinner’s Laureus nomination revoked after doping ban.
- World number one suspended for three months over drug tests.
- Australian Open champion sidelined until May 4.
Jannik Sinner’s nomination for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award has been revoked following his three-month doping suspension.
The world number one agreed to an immediate ban earlier this month after reaching a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency over two positive drug tests from last year.
The 23-year-old Italian, who claimed the Australian Open title in January, is suspended from February 9 to May 4.

“Following discussions by the Laureus Academy, it has been decided that Jannik Sinner’s nomination for this year’s Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award is to be withdrawn,” Laureus World Sports Academy chairman Sean Fitzpatrick said.
“We have followed this case, the decisions of the relevant global bodies and – whilst we note the extenuating circumstances involved – feel that the three-month ban renders the nomination ineligible.
“Jannik and his team have been informed.”
Sinner was initially cleared of wrongdoing by an independent panel after testing positive for the banned substance clostebol in March.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) determined that the positive test resulted from inadvertent contamination by his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi.
WADA appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), initially pushing for a suspension of up to two years. However, a settlement was reached after WADA acknowledged that Sinner’s contamination was unintentional and that he had no intent to cheat.
The nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards, selected by a panel of journalists and broadcasters, will be announced on March 3.
