Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Border Patrol Unit have intercepted over 100 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from suspected smugglers attempting to move the product out of the country into Niger Republic.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement from the Force Headquarters, officers on a routine stop-and-search duty along the Illela–Sokoto Highway intercepted a vehicle carrying eighty jerrycans of petrol.
The driver, identified as Yasir Adamu, was arrested after investigations showed he intended to smuggle the product across the border.
In another operation in Katsina State, the police recovered thirty-five jerrycans, each containing twenty-five litres of PMS, from a group of suspected smugglers who fled the scene on sighting law enforcement officers.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and professionalism.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to continue its operations against all acts of economic sabotage and cross-border crimes that threaten the nation’s stability.
The interception, according to the Force, reflects the ongoing nationwide effort to curb fuel smuggling, protect national resources, and maintain security along Nigeria’s borders.
