Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has emerged as the leading candidate to become Germany’s next head coach following the country’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to multiple German media reports, Klopp is the frontrunner to replace Julian Nagelsmann, who is expected to be dismissed after Germany’s shock Round of 32 elimination to Paraguay.
German newspaper *Bild* reported on Thursday that Nagelsmann held a three hour meeting with officials of the German Football Association (DFB) in Frankfurt, where he was reportedly offered a severance package worth €7 million.
Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024 after ending his successful managerial spell at the Premier League club, currently serves as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football. In that role, he oversees the company’s football operations across clubs in Austria, Germany, Brazil, the United States and Japan.
Sky Germany and *Süddeutsche Zeitung* have also identified the 58 year old as the overwhelming favourite to take charge of the four time world champions.
Germany’s penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay marked another disappointing World Cup campaign for the European giants. The loss was their third successive early exit from the tournament, following group stage eliminations at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 edition in Qatar.
It also marked Germany’s first appearance in the World Cup knockout stage since lifting the trophy at the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

In the wake of the disappointing exit, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf announced an immediate investigation into the team’s World Cup performance.
Nagelsmann, whose contract was extended until 2028 in January 2025, has come under growing pressure following Germany’s latest setback, with his future expected to be decided in the coming days.
