President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with 2027 ambitions to resign has claimed another cabinet member, as Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, officially stepped down from her position.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Onyejeocha becomes the third minister to exit the cabinet in compliance with the president’s order, following the resignations of the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who both left to pursue governorship ambitions in their respective states.

Announcing her resignation in a letter shared on Friday, Onyejeocha described her time in office as a defining moment in her public service journey.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote.
She expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, stating, “This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration.”
Reflecting on her exit, she added, “This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Onyejeocha also acknowledged the support of her colleagues and ministry staff, praising their “dedication, professionalism, and partnership” in advancing workers’ welfare and employment opportunities.
“This period marks the end of a significant chapter in my journey of service as I formally resign as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she noted.
While she did not disclose the specific position she intends to contest, her resignation aligns with the March 31 deadline issued by the president for all appointees seeking elective office.
Her departure signals a growing wave of political realignments within the administration as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually intensify.
