Operatives attached to the Kebbi State Police Command have taken into custody a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over his alleged involvement in the desecration of the Holy Qur’an and conducting ritualistic practices in the Zuru Local Government Area of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspect, a resident of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru, was apprehended following allegations of criminal conspiracy, improper handling and abuse of religious books, usage of spells, and actions capable of inciting public disturbance and communal unrest.

Confirming the arrest in an official press statement released on Friday, August 14, 2026, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Bashir Usman, detailed that the incident took place on August 9, 2026, around 7:00 pm in the Zango neighborhood of Zuru town.
Preliminary investigations conducted by law enforcement detectives indicated that Musa conspired with two other suspects, identified as Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango.
The duo allegedly dug a pit inside a bedroom belonging to Tela’s wife, Zarau Hassan, where they buried a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside fetish items, including red and white kola nuts, underwear, animal remains, bodily fluids, and substances linked to ritual charms.
Police findings disclosed that the perpetrators conducted the sacrilegious act under the belief that the spell would make Zarau Hassan submissive to her husband, Rabi’u Tela.
Law enforcement authorities pointed out that such desecration of a sacred religious text posed a severe threat to public peace, carrying the potential to trigger widespread religious indignation across the community.
Reacting to the development, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, denounced the act in strong terms, warning residents against engaging in practices that undermine public order or insult religious sensitivities.
He reiterated that the command will strictly enforce the law against any individual or group whose conduct threatens peaceful coexistence within the state.
The police command confirmed that Abubakar Musa remains in custody and will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations, while tactical teams are actively pursuing the two fleeing suspects, Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango.
