According to insiders, the promotions and redeployments are expected to bring changes to leadership in several strategic formations across the country, reflecting efforts to enhance efficiency and operational effectiveness.

One of the newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General, Moshood Jimoh, who currently serves as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, is reportedly seeking to remain within the state in a new capacity.
Sources indicate he is pushing for deployment either to head Zone 2 Command in Onikan or the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department annex in Alagbon.
Zone 2 Command oversees police activities in Lagos and Ogun states, while the Alagbon unit is known for handling major criminal investigations. Although an earlier attempt to secure the Zone 2 position was unsuccessful, sources say Jimoh has renewed his efforts.

The Police Service Commission recently approved his promotion alongside 12 other Commissioners of Police after a selection process that included written exams and interviews conducted in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Tijani Fatai, currently serving as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, is being considered as a possible successor to Jimoh in Lagos. Reports suggest he may have the support of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Jimoh became the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos in February 2025, taking over from Olanrewaju Ishola, who was reassigned to the Force Headquarters.
The recent promotions followed an evaluation exercise held on March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission headquarters in Jabi, where senior officers were assessed for advancement to the rank of Assistant Inspector General.
