Fresh tensions have emerged within the Labour Party after the party leadership warned members and aspirants not to purchase nomination forms from former National Chairman Julius Abure.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the party described any form allegedly issued by Abure as invalid, insisting that only documents released through the official national secretariat in Abuja should be recognised ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in a statement on Sunday, National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa accused Abure of attempting to mislead party faithful by presenting himself as the legitimate leader of the party despite the ongoing leadership dispute.
The reaction followed reports and social media images showing Abure handing over nomination forms to some individuals in Abia State. The party maintained that Nenadi Usman remains the recognised leader of the Labour Party and warned aspirants against dealing with unauthorised persons.

According to the statement, anyone obtaining forms outside the officially approved channel risks being deceived, as such documents would not be accepted by the party.
The Labour Party also raised concerns over Abure’s political activities in Abia State, saying Governor Alex Otti would not bow to pressure or political intimidation.
The leadership further claimed that Abure’s continued self-presentation as national chairman could result in legal consequences.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a response from Abure were unsuccessful because his phone line could not be reached at the time of filing the report.

The disagreement is part of the prolonged power struggle within the party between Abure and the caretaker committee headed by Nenadi Usman.
The crisis worsened after the Court of Appeal reportedly affirmed the leadership of the Usman-led committee, a decision Abure rejected while promising to challenge it at the Supreme Court.
Abure has consistently argued that internal leadership matters in political parties should not be settled by the judiciary.
The dispute took another turn after the Independent National Electoral Commission recognised the Usman-led caretaker committee in line with an earlier Federal High Court judgment.
