- Samuel Ajose, a governorship aspirant for the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially refuted a circulating press release claiming he endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 governorship race.
- Ajose clarified that he played no part in the decision-making process of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), which recently backed Hamzat as the party’s consensus candidate.
- The aspirant has labeled the endorsement claim as “fictitious” and “malicious,” demanding an immediate retraction from media outlets within 12 hours or face legal proceedings for damages.
The internal politics of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) took a litigious turn on Thursday as governorship aspirant Samuel Ajose moved to distance himself from reports suggesting a unified front behind Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released via his verified social media account, Ajose condemned a “false and unauthorised” press release that portrayed him as stepping down and endorsing Hamzat’s candidacy.

The controversy follows recent high-level meetings where the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and President Bola Tinubu reportedly gave their blessings to Hamzat to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ajose, however, maintains that these reports are part of a coordinated effort to manipulate public opinion and damage his electoral standing.
Ajose urged his supporters and the general public to disregard any statement suggesting he has abandoned his ambition.
He specifically cautioned media organizations against amplifying the document, which he described as a “defamatory and potentially criminal instrument”.
The aspirant emphasized that neither he nor his campaign organization authorized any such communication.

The APC chieftain has set a strict 12-hour ultimatum for the deletion and retraction of the false endorsement news.
He warned that failure to comply would result in “legal proceedings for reputational and electoral damages” without further notice.
This defiance highlights a growing rift within the state’s ruling party as multiple interests navigate the 2027 succession plan.
