EKO HOT BLOG recalls that on January 13, a total of 32 out of 40 lawmakers voted to remove Obasa over allegations of fraud and high-handedness, leading to the installation of Meranda as Speaker. Under the new arrangement, Meranda is expected to step down and return to her previous role as Deputy Speaker. Meanwhile, the GAC is reportedly working to maintain regional balance in the Assembly by selecting a replacement from Lagos West, where Obasa hails from.
Currently, eight ranking lawmakers from Lagos West are considered eligible for the position:

- Hon. Temitope Adewale (Ifako-Ijaye 1)

- Hon. Richard Kasunmu (Ikeja 2)
- Hon. Lukmon Olumoh (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1)
- Hon. Age Sulaimon (Amuwo-Odofin 2)
